September 12: Annual Regathering Service

All are welcome to our Regathering Service on September 12th at 10:30am.  This is the time Unitarian Universalists around the world return from their vacations or travels and share a meaningful moment they encountered during their time away.  We each bring a small container of actual (or virtual) water from a beach, a river, a lake, a waterfall, an ocean, a faucet or puddle -  a symbol of our striving to make meaning of our lives through adventures both bold and simple.

Also, those who bring stones back from their travels will be able to place them around the Peace Pole after the service.

A picnic will follow the service so we can continue our stories and our sharing.

SUPPORT THE MINISTER'S DISCRETIONARY FUND

The MINISTER'S DISCRETIONARY FUND was set up by the SUUS Board to help the Minister reach out in confidence to those in need in our congregation and community. It began with a $1,000 grant and has been continually replenished by donations. In four years, the funds have rolled over several times thanks to individual contributions. Because of financial hard times, the Fund is currently low. If you are able to help SUUS be ready to respond to the next person in need. Please give any amount you can afford.

Make checks payable to
and send to:

SUUS Minister's Discretionary Fund  (SUUS MDF)
297 Boston Post Road
Madison, CT 06443

When I am away, I will work with Helen Kennedy, Church Administrator, to administer this Fund.  Your ongoing support really does make a difference.

Rev. Claudia Elferdink

Our UU Connections
SUUS is connected to the wider world of Unitarian Universalism through our membership in the Clara Barton District (CBD), the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA) and the Unitarian Universalist Service Committe (UUSC)  Speak with Mary Strieff, our District Representative, if you would like more information on any of the following.

CBD WORKSHOPS:

Our UU Purpose: The Foundation for Congregational Vitality, October 30 - a Learning Congregation workshop that invites participants to consider fundamental questions about what it means to be a UU congregation and leader. Clear answers to these questions fuel purposeful congregational growth and vitality.

Our UU Purpose: Turning Ourselves Inside Out, December 4 - a Learning Congregation workshop to help leaders discern their congregation's calling and unique role in the community. Inspiring and meaningful mission statements flow naturally when a congregation and its leaders understand this calling.

UUSC Upcoming Trips:

Witness to a Return Home:  A Trip to Uganda, November 4–16

Participants will learn about UUSC's unique eye-to-eye partnership with Caritas Pader, which has empowered thousands of people to return to their villages and rebuild their lives after a brutal 20-year civil war. Participants will also meet with the UU Kampala congregation; talk with Ugandan leaders of the struggle for LGBT people's rights; and visit the school and orphanage the Kampala congregation supports near Masaka. Early registration discount end on September 1. Find out more and download an application.

Haiti Volunteer Program, 2011 and beyond

Join us in supporting our partners in their work to rebuild Haiti and ensure a just recovery for all Haitians. Our goal is to begin these volunteer trips in January 2011. Interested in participating? Let us know!
