Rites of Passage

Shoreline Unitarian Universalist SocietyLife passages are an important part of our spiritual life together. Led by our Minister, Rev. Claudia Elferdink, these Stepping Stones mark our life journey.

We celebrate the arrival of our children in Child Dedication ceremonies where parents, children and adults in the congregation commit to the raising of our newest young ones.

Coming of Age is a year-long program where our young teens prepare for adulthood by learning more about our Unitarian Universalist tradition and activity. At the end of the year we recognize our new young adults in the Coming of Age Service.

Becoming a Member is a rite of passage we celebrate when people join our congregation. This ceremony is brief and is held in a Sunday Service.

Marriage and Services of Union have long been how we celebrate the life-long love between two people. Our Minister, Rev. Claudia Elferdink, officiates at weddings for both same-sex and heterosexual couples. For those couples who prefer, a Service of Union is an alternative.

Memorials and Funerals are how we celebrate the end of life at Shoreline Unitarian Universalist. Working with the family, in poetry, music and reflections, we share our memories and say good-bye to beloved friends and family. Family members and Friends of SUUS can be memorialized in our Memorial Garden, and cremation remains may be interred there.
