The Stewardship Drive is fast approaching! This year’s theme is “Paving the Way to the Future through Generosity." The theme was more of a play on words initially because the parking lot is finally going to get underway. But, the more we thought about it, the more we realized that the parking lot is the perfect example of what stewardship means. The parking lot is mostly possible because of the generosity of those who have gone before us. The parking lot being paved will allow us to expand our community, which will, in turn, allow us to do more of the mission of SUUS. Remember that generosity, community and mission are the three items that turn the “stewardship engine”.
As you know, stewardship is the sharing our time, talent and resources. As the Stewardship Drive approaches, we will focus more on the financial resources portion of stewardship, but all aspects are equally important. The cornerstone of sharing our financial resources is fair share giving.
Fair share giving is a way to show your connection to SUUS. The fair share giving guide suggests a financial contribution level. Remember that this is a suggestion, not a requirement. If you are already giving at a fair share level, we thank you. We suggest that if you are not a fair share giver today, that you consider moving toward a fair share giving contribution. For some people, that may be a three to five year process, but we advocate moving toward a fair share financial commitment in a steady, intentional way. Remember that no one can tell you what is the right about for you to contribute. Giving comes from the heart and it is a personal decision that we all must make.
