Tis the Season to be Generous

We at SUUS thank everyone for sharing their resources throughout the year. We wish you the happiest of holidays and  as the year is coming to a close, please consider the following suggestions before 2017 ends

Anyone concerned about the impact of the pending new federal tax plan is welcome to give to SUUS right now!  Such contributions would be deductible under current tax law which may increase the value of those deductions.

  • Make an extra donation or pledge payment this month, or toss in an extra $10, $20, $50 $100, $1000 into the offering plate one Sunday, because generosity makes us feel good.
  • Pre-pay the balance of your 2017-18 Pledge before December 31 and realize the additional deduction for 2017.
  • Those age 70 ½ and older who must take Required Minimum Distributions (RMD) from their retirement accounts can transfer their RMDs directly to the congregation, which for many can have tax benefits.
  • Donating appreciated securities, such as  stocks or mutual funds, enables you to avoid paying tax on any gains while deducting the full value of the donated assets.  (Check with your financial institution as the deadline for SUUS receiving these may be prior to Dec. 31)  SUUS has a brokerage account and can accept securities at any time.  For more info, contact SUUS president, Dan Brill

Remember the value of our faith in these perilous times. We UUs are called to stand in love and justice, to be present and accounted for, to be a safe place for vulnerable people, to be a source of strength and love, to stand up to hate and bigotry and fear. This is why we come together, this is why we give generously – to pool our resources to bring about the world we seek.  Thank you for supporting SUUS.
