Religious Education News – February 7, 2018

Nate PawelekThanks to the all children who made Valentine’s cards for members and friends from our church community who need some cheer and joy!  Also, thanks to Steve Ernst and Briana Benn-Mirandi for helping with our Children’s Chapel service last Sunday.  Steve performed two of his own compositions on differently-sized Native American flutes!  Briana told the children about Imbolc, a Pagan observation that marks the advent of spring when mother animals start to wake from hibernation to feed their offspring.  Imbolc and Groundhog Day are similar in how they are calendar indicators that help us get ready for spring and longer days.  Song to the groundhog:

Will you won’t you see your shadow?

Will it won’t it really matter?

Do you don’t you grin to see…

People take you seriously?

Our annual Secret Pen Pals tradition is under way!  Please try to stay on top of the letter exchange.  If you know you will not be at church, please send your letters (scanning and emailing is the best method) to me (Nate).  This Sunday is Letter Exchange #3.  In other words, Children and Adults will exchange their third letters!  Hope you’re having fun!

There will be a special mini-multigenerational Worship Service on Sunday, February 11 to mark Valentine’s Day (February 14).  The SUUS Orchestra will be performing “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles (arranged by Nate).  If you would like to join the ensemble let me know by Thursday, February 8, so I can have time to arrange a part for you.
