THIS SUNDAY@ 12:30 – Connecticut Archeology Road Show

Got some old bones or other artifacts you’ve dug up? Have them evaluated at a talk by two members of Friends of the Office of State Archaeology (FOSA), Sunday, April 28, from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Society, 297 Boston Post Road, Madison.

Dr. Don Rankin and Gary Nolf of the Friends group will discuss the geologic history of the local area, recent archaeological discoveries of artifacts from the shoreline as early as 10,000 years ago, and interpret artifacts visitors bring to the talk.

Since the state office of archaeology has a minimal budget, the FOSA volunteer group presents educational programs to increase public awareness of archaeological issues, encourage partnerships between the Office of State Archaeology (OSA)scientific research and local communities, and develop permanent sources of financial support for OSA efforts. Dr. Brian D. Jones, the current Connecticut State Archaeologist, says “The active participation of volunteer organizations, particularly FOSA, are critical to the ability of the Office of State Archaeology to accomplish its mission of preserving the rich archaeological heritage of the State of Connecticut.” Further information on FOSA is available by e-mail to fosa-ct@archaeologist.com.
