SUUS COVID-19 Advisory Group Reflection

This week’s reflection comes from Scott Swenson.

Domestic Silver Linings and Staying Vigilant

Sheltering at home has been positive in many ways.  We have had dinner together as a family every single night for two and a half months!  This never would have happened under normal circumstances.  We have a new evening routine which includes watching Jeopardy together after dinner.  We have played board games, watched movies and done jigsaw puzzles together.  Everyone has contributed to planting and weeding the yard.  Our new bird feeders attract birds we never saw before. Our time at home allows us to see wildlife that was probably always there, but we were not home to see.

We won’t be going on a family summer vacation.  Summer music camp will have to be virtual.  College coop internship plans will have to wait. We are grateful for our health and safety.  We remain vigilant because the risk has not diminished.  The early anxiety about the pandemic has been replaced by our shared resolve to adapt and make the best of it.  We are not letting down our guard, and we’re going to be OK.
