THIS FRIDAY AT 5pm – Discussion of the Film “Just Mercy”

The SEA committee has scheduled a pre-dinner conversation about the award winning film “Just Mercy” on Friday, June 19 at 5 p.m.

Before the discussion, you can watch the film for free on YouTube, Google Play or Amazon until the end of the month.

“Just Mercy” tells the true story of a young lawyer and his battle for justice by overturning the wrongful conviction of Walter McMillan (played by Jamie Foxx).  McMillan is an innocent black man who spent six years on death row for the murder of an 18-year-old white woman. An almost entirely white jury convicted McMillian on the basis of flimsy evidence raised by a white sheriff and district attorney. The factual courtroom drama tackles the subjects of racism and the death penalty. Parents should know it includes dialogue about violence, racial epithets and brief sex-related dialogue.  It is rated PG-13.
