Using Pema Chodron’s book, Welcoming the Unwelcome: Wholehearted Living in a Brokenhearted World, we set the stage for sharing about Scarlet Lewis’ Choose Love program. Her son, Jesse, was one of the students murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Developing this program was her response and is now her life’s mission in light of the tragedy. Its central message is that we do not always have control over what happens to us but we do have a choice about how we respond. The formula goes like this ~ Courage +Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action = Choosing Love.
