Faith Formation News – 1/21/21

Dear SUUS Families,

I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling an enormous amount of weight lifted after yesterday’s inauguration. How are you feeling? Did you do anything special? We had a celebratory lunch and then ate blue cake! Yup, the inside was blue and so were our tongues! It was a truly joyous occasion expressed in cheers and happy tears.

Inauguration Cake

If you missed last Sunday’s service, I share below the link to photos of the artwork presented by our Faith Formation children. It was a very meaningful presentation for the whole congregation and I am grateful to all who participated.

Please Join us this Sunday at 1pm in the SUUS parking lot where we will finish our story of “imagination,” and decide how to illustrate, act-out and create our final presentation together. Hope to see you there!

Food Drive at SUUS
Faith Formation will once again be collecting food for our neighbors at Amistad Catholic Worker House in East Haven, CT, where Luz Catarineau and her husband Mark Colville have been feeding the homeless since 1994. Now more than ever they need our help, and even in a global pandemic they continue to provide breakfast and lunch to those in need. Please review the list below and if you are able, kindly deliver your items to the covered bins at the top outdoor stairs at SUUS. If you are unable to contribute food at this time, they are always accepting prayers. For more information about Amistad, please visit their website:

Powdered creamer
Pancake mix (complete preferable)
Pancake Syrup

Juice mix
Pasta sauce
Canned vegetables
Beans-red, black, garbanzo beans

Essential Paper Products
Toilet tissue
Paper towels
Facial tissue

*Please note: Amistad is happy to take anything else beyond the items listed above to either use as part of a meal or to bag up for families that are served.

February 6 at 1pm – SUUS Mom’s Group at the Lagasse’s
Next month, we will explore the theme of “beloved community,” and what a great way to kick it off then with the start of a SUUS Mom’s Group. A special thanks to Karis Lagasse for sending out a message of love to our Moms and organizing this very important connection. More details will be shared in the Friday e-blast. Stay tuned!
“My mother’s love has always been a sustaining force for our family, and one of my greatest joys is seeing her integrity, her compassion, her intelligence reflected in my daughters.” – Michelle Obama

Does your child have a Birthday coming up? SUUS Birthday Parades continue to celebrate our children and youth safely. We have a list of Birthdays, but please be in touch with Jennifer Farmer Etzel if your child has an upcoming Birthday and you would like us to organize a parade and/or you would like to participate in the upcoming parades. Thank you, Jennifer, for keeping this new FF tradition going!
