Faith Formation News – 3/4/21

Dear SUUS Families,

A special thank you and shout out goes to Penelope Dwyer for hosting an awesome ZOOM Trivia and Game gathering last Sunday! And thank you to special guest, Rev. Terry, for joining us! We laughed together, and some of us even learned how to use the Zoom Whiteboard for a few rounds of Pictionary! As always, it was good to be together!

This Sunday, we will have a Faith Formation “Blessing of the Animals” outdoors at SUUS! Please come prepared with a few sentences written about your animal that you will share with the group during the Dedication. What does your animal mean to you? What can you tell us about their hopes and dreams? If your live animal cannot make it (for whatever reason; not good with other animals/people, poisonous etc.!), please feel free to bring a picture, drawing or stuffed animal in their place. A photo of a pet that has passed is also welcome. Check out more details are below!

“WOOF! This Dedication thing sounds like FUN!” -Chester

See you on Sunday!

Love,
Amy

P.S. We have concluded our monthly theme of “Beloved Community,” and March invites us to explore the theme of “Commitment.” What do you think of when you hear the word commitment? The first thing that comes to mind is Covenant – the commitment we make to each other outlining how we will be in relationship when we are together. Usually each Faith Formation class creates a covenant together at the beginning of the year, but since this year was so different, we never actually completed the practice. Some families might have a Covenant at home, but if not, I encourage you to consider doing so this month. In Faith Formation, we will reaffirm our “Commitments” and Covenants with one another during the month of March. Join us!

P.P.S. Did you get to see the Art Installation photos last Sunday during the service? If not, please see below. Thank you to Laura Martino, Soule Golden, the Racial Justice Team, and all who participated in the project and Dr. King’s dream of “Beloved Community.”

Faith Formation Happenings

WORSHIP
Sunday, March 7 at 10:30am: “Surviving in the Waiting Room: “Practical Commitment”” – Rev. Terry Sweetser
What our children teach us about creativity is that life’s waiting room is really a playground if we persist in having a perspective of playfulness.
Join us on Zoom with your Animal for worship this Sunday! After the “Story for All,” I will spotlight each family who has an Animal being Dedicated later in the afternoon during Faith Formation.

CHILD DEDICATION
This is the last week to sign up for Child Dedication! We have two children committed, and would love to have more! The Virtual Child Dedication service will be on Sunday, March 21. Please be in touch no later than Sunday, March 7 if your family is interested.

CLASSES

Sunday, March 7 at 1pm – Faith Formation “Blessing of the Animals at SUUS
Please join us for a Dedication of our Beloved Animals (alive or stuffed). This is a great opportunity to introduce the idea of being “Dedicated” ahead of our Child Dedication in a few weeks (Thank you, Benna for the suggestion!). It is also a fabulous way to better understand and connect to our monthly theme of “Commitment.” Your animal will receive a certificate (made by YOU), a gift (also made by YOU) and a flower! I hope you, your family and your ANIMAL can join us! ONE animal per person please! We are a church not a ZOO! Just kidding. Well, sometimes it’s kind of like a ZOO… MEOW! WOOF!

Sunday, March 14 – Zoom Quizlet!
Laura Martino is at it again! We will gather on Zoom directly following worship for some Trivia and Fun! More details next week!

Sunday, March 21 – Child Dedication
Please support our Faith Formation children being dedicated on Zoom and join us for Worship at 10:30am.

Sunday, March 28 – Easter Egg Hunt!
Save the date for a hunt and stay tuned for more details!
