Emmy Award Winner “The Buddha” Documentary coming to SUUS on Friday

Two and a half millennia ago, a new religion was born in India, generated from the ideas of an Indian sage who gained enlightenment while he sat under a large fig tree. He was the Buddha, who never claimed to be God or his emissary on earth, only that he was a human being who had found a kind of serenity that others could find, too. We will show a documentary that tells the story of his life, a journey especially relevant in our own times.

Until recently, the United States has been primarily a Judeo-Christian nation and now encompasses theological groups relatively unknown in the early days of the republic. Buddhism, the fourth largest religion (after Christianity, Islam and Hinduism), has been steadily gaining adherents in America.

We will show David Grubin’s Emmy Award Winning documentary, “The Buddha,” which uses painting and sculptures to track his life story across the sweeping landscapes of northern India. Part I will be shown via Zoom on Friday, March 19 from 7 to 8 and Part II the following Friday, March 26, at the same time. Rev. Terry will moderate discussion after each showing. Mark your calendar now, and email Maryann Bracken mabfilkins@gmail.com to receive the Zoom link.
