Faith Formation News – 4/28/22

Dear SUUS Families,

Faith Formation Family Day is this Saturday, April 30! Woohoo! If you have not done so already, please RSVP Amy for the “Wide World of Animals” program with Ranger Russ at the Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonasset from 11am – 12pm. Out of nine possible programs, Faith Formation voted for “Wide World of Animals!” WWoA is defined as “Animal Olympics! Compete against animals in long jump, run, throw and other events.”

All are welcome to join us for one or all of the day’s activities! Here’s what’s on the schedule!:

FAITH FORMATION FAMILY DAY SCHEDULE
9am – 10:30am: Madison Green Up Clean Up – Cottage Road, Madison. Park in the Middlesex Health building parking lot at 1291 Boston Post Rd, Madison (next to Cohen’s Bagels. Lot faces both Boston Post Road and Cottage Road.) Cottage Road is a lightly traveled neighborhood road and will be safe for helpers of all ages. While much of the road is clean, there are some wooded areas that will need a lot of attention. (This is the same area we worked on last year. It needs our help again!)
*SUUS Helpers: Please bring work gloves and dress for the weather, ticks, poison ivy, etc. Please leave your own water bottles in your car. SUUS will get supplies for the group before our meet up time. Come for as long as you can! Thank you! And thank you, Beth Skudder, for helping to organize!

10:30am – 11am: Dunkin Donuts Break/Travel to Meigs Point Nature Center!

11am – 12pm: Wide World of Animals w/Ranger Russ at Meigs Point (RSVP Amy please!)

12pm – 1pm: Picnic Lunch at Hammonasset (BYOL – bring your own lunch!)
We will meet at the pavilion/concession area directly across from the Meigs Point Nature Center Parking Lot on the beach side.

Then on Sunday, May 1 we will gather for a “May Day” multigenerational worship service at SUUS at 10:30am! Bring your dancing shoes as we celebrate around the Maypole with song and dance! ALL are WELCOME!

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend!

Love,
Amy
p.s. CALLING ALL MOMs GROUP PARTICIPANTS! At 9am on Sunday, May 1, at SUUS there will be an organizational meeting of SEA to discuss the evolution of MOM’s Group, which has delightfully expanded to a WOMEN’s Group! Please join if you are able!

WORSHIP
Sunday, May 1 at 10:30am – Multigenerational Multiplatform Service (outdoors @ SUUS and on ZOOM)
“May Day Traditions” – May Day, also called Beltane (“good fire”), is a day that marks one of the four cross-quarter days, halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.  On May Day we celebrate the fertility of the earth and the new spring growth, whether plants or animal.  Traditions for this day include gathering May flowers, going “a-Maying,” smudging livestock and humans with smoke from that good fire, and best of all, a Maypole dance!
This Sunday, May 1st, we honor the energy of growth and fertility.  Wear your dancing shoes for the Maypole dancing outdoors in the church garden or on Zoom.  All generations welcome!
