Transylvania Pilgrimage 2013

Transylvania Pilgrimage

In the spring of 2013, ten members of SUUS and two members of All Souls UU Church in New London embarked on a pilgrimage to Transylvania. The purpose of the trip was to learn about our historic roots as Unitarians and deepen our faith. We connected with our co-religionists in Eastern Europe – including the high school student we sponsored for four years in Sepsiszentgyorgy, Romania.

We spent 11 days in Transylvania including 3 days/nights “home stays” in a Unitarian pastoral village in central Transylvania. We completed a service project (building bookshelves at the Unitarian High School and delivering cases of English books, visited local sights and had a great deal fun.

Along the way we visited historic Unitarian sites, spent time with Unitarian ministers and congregants, shared meals and worshiped with them.  We all, in some way, felt deeply connected to this land and its peoples and were transformed by all the connections we made during our time there.
