Faith Formation – Come Form the Future of SUUS

Did you join us in our discussion about Faith Formation at SUUS last Sunday?  For those who couldn’t join, Faith Formation refers to the ways that SUUS supports and encourages members to grow in the Unitarian Universalist faith, such as what we have traditionally known as both children and adult “religious education.” Click HERE to view Faith Formation brochure

Why should you care?  Faith Formation isn’t just about our kids – it impacts the entire congregation.  First, while children’s religious education is an important part of faith formation and the immediate focus of our work, it also refers to adult programs and multigenerational programming.  Second, the decisions we make about faith formation for kids can impact how our church is run (for instance, kids in services more often).  Finally, having kids more engaged in our faith formation programming increases the probability they’ll become adults engaged in the congregation.

Why now?  Although SUUS has offered wonderful children’s programming for years, the needs of our families and volunteers have changed significantly and the Sunday School model has not been sustainable for many congregations, especially in New England.  This is a good time for us to do this work to help identify what we need as we search for our next religious educator.

What do we need from you?  We need your help “blue skying” what faith formation can look like at SUUS.  Come join us on November 18, at the Fall Congregational Meeting at noon, where we will be doing some exercises to brainstorm what faith formation programming could work for our congregation now and the future!
