August 25

“Grit” is the new buzzword.  Psychologists, educators, management gurus—even Little League coaches—all are promoting the value of grittiness.  So what is grit?  How do we get it?  What is its relevance for our spiritual lives and for our Unitarian Universalist faith?

Join us on August 25 to consider these questions as Jennifer Johnson returns to SUUS with her reflections, “Grit for the Love Revolution.”

Jennifer Beth Johnson is a Candidate for Unitarian Universalist Ministry, entering her fifth and final year in the Masters of Divinity program at Meadville Lombard Theological School.  Raised in a secular family, Jennifer remembers longing for religious community from the very early days of her childhood.  In her early thirties, she at last found a spiritual home in the freethinking, openhearted, justice-seeking tradition that is Unitarian Universalism.  Five years ago she discerned a call to enter the ministry and serve the faith that answered her heart’s longing.  Her winding journey to ministry included stops along the way in literary studies, mental health care, childbirth coaching, and nonprofit communications.  Jennifer lives in Franklin, MA with her spouse, Dave, and their teenage daughters, Amelia and Carly.
