May 2021 “Share the Plate:” Sunrise Movement CT

In May, we will share our plate with Sunrise Movement Connecticut, which is part of a non-profit organization whose membership spans many colors and creeds, from all parts of the country. They are dedicated to stopping climate change, principally through a Green New Deal, and creating millions of good-paying jobs in the process. All members are committed to non-violence to achieve their goals and encourage participation of young people. They advocate for legislation, in state and national legislatures, and they work at the local level to engage communities in actions needed. In Connecticut, the Sunrise Movement has nine active “hubs,” located from New Canaan to Litchfield (the closest are in Middletown and New Haven). These hubs have been working for passage of bills in the General Assembly for more equitable housing and zoning laws, to stop the proposed fracked-gas power plant in Killingly, to place a moratorium on fossil fuel power plants, and to save forests and green corridors. If you wish to learn more about Sunrise Movement, visit their webpage at https://www.sunrisemovement.org or the Connecticut group’s Facebook page.
