Urgent Need for Humanitarian Aid at the Border

Former members Lynn and Owen Charles are spending a second year at the Arizona border. Below is a letter from them asking for donations. Please help, if you can.

Dear Friends,

Lynne and I are back at the border and the migrant flow has changed course… migrants are now immediately deported or put in detention and then deported. So we are working with nonprofit Salvavision in Mexico.

There is GREAT NEED right now-

PLEASE donate needed items using this link to Salvavision’s Amazon wishlist (3 of the most needed items at the moment are string backpacks, shoelaces, and plushtoys for children.) But all items on the list are needed. We are literally running out of supplies every day.

Details: We are now volunteering where the need is greatest: the repatriation office in Nogales, Mexico. There we help migrants get oriented, give info about nearby shelters, escort them in cabs to the shelter — and provide basic necessities. This includes shoelaces, socks, string backpacks, hair ties, and small toys for children. All these things have been confiscated by the Border Patrol. They return to their homeland with a plastic ziplock bag, with often no money (stolen by the cartels) and maybe a few personal documents.

They’ve lost everything. In one day at the Mexican repatriation center, helping nearly a hundred people, we see enough hardship, grief and fear to stop us in our tracks.
