It is sometimes heard in spiritual communities that our work exists in a realm beyond material concerns, and that politics and social activism is something we should not address in our public or professional roles. Is it “unspiritual” to take a public stand on political issues, especially when the stakes are as high as they are in today’s America?
.
Inspired by Bishop Marianne Budde speaking truth to Donald Trump from the pulpit during the inauguration, we pose thIs question… as public facing care providers and spritual leaders, do we have a moral and ethical obligation to stand for social justice in our professional roles? Or are we expected to keep spiritual practice, professional outreach and political activism in separate silos?
