On Saturday, October 17, over 100 UUs from around the state met at the Unitarian Society of New Haven (USNH) in Hamden CT. There was worship, led by Rev. Tony Lorenzen,, a keynote speaker, Juan Fonseca Tapia who shared his story of immigration and justice work, children and youth programming and workshops that focused on organizing infrastructure, asset mapping, election protection, trans haven, legislative success, and how to move individual action to collective power.
Talk with Mary Strieff, who was our delegate for the day, if you’d like to learn more.
Sierra-Marie Gerfao, founder and executive director of CTUUJM offers these items about our work.

- We will have action alerts and updates about our state legislative work from January through June
- We are exploring the feasibility of building a Trans Haven in Connecticut, a network of support for trans folks who are already here as well as trans refugees who are moving here from more hostile states. Rev. Josh Pawelek and I will be sharing a viability study soon.
- Opportunity to meet other CT UUs working for justice. Let me know if you would be interested in serving as a liaison. Liaisons will meet on a monthly basis on Zoom and will be an important link between the congregations and this statewide ministry.
- We will soon have information about a letter-writing campaign for which several of our partner organizations are asking for help. Across the state, we will be blanketing local papers with letters to the editor in support of a state fund to assist families with someone detained by ICE.
