5 Ways to Support Immigrants
If you know an immigrant who has gone into detention, family members or friends are encouraged to fill out the Interfaith Family Ministry request form to share about needs, both spiritual and practical. Currently, the form is available in English and Spanish. Coming soon: Haitian Creole, Ukranian, Russian (and more on request!).

Click here if you know clergy from any tradition in other states who might be willing to attempt clergy visits for detained immigrants from Connecticut.
Click here if you are — or anyone you know is — an attorney who would be willing to pick up paid cases to assist immigrants who have been detained. You do not need to be an immigration attorney (training provided)!
If you speak a language other than English and would be willing to help at-risk immigrants prepare in case they are picked up by ICE, or if you know of an immigrant community that would benefit from a workshop helping community members to prepare, click here.

Governor Lamont has issued a new way to report issues in regards to federal interference. This site is intended to collect information regarding the impact of federal policy and funding changes on nonprofits, municipalities, and businesses. Please report any federal impacts – including funding reductions, pauses and delays in accessing funds – as well as employment reductions or impacts from tariffs. CLICK HERE to learn more |

In January of 2025, the Trump Administration rescinded a Biden-era policy that protected certain areas—such as churches, school, and hospitals—from immigration enforcement. While the larger moral implications of this order remain in the forefront of our minds, solid information and forward-looking planning are also essential for our congregations. the NILC Fact Sheet –
The NILC states:
The rescission [of the Protected Areas Policies] is a fear tactic by the Trump administration to make immigrant communities feel less safe even in spaces that are at the heart of a civil society… All people in the United States have certain rights regardless of immigration status. However, now that the protected areas (aka ‘sensitive locations’) and courthouse memos have been rescinded, these areas no longer enjoy special protections from ICE enforcement. Instead, individuals will need to rely on basic constitutional protections in these spaces.
That said, according to the ACLU, ICE has no right to be admitted to any church without a formal warrant signed by a judge. Churches are treated in law the same as schools. If someone does speak to ICE men they should only give their name. They should ask to see a warrant with judge’s signature and probable cause and make sure names are spelled correctly, the document is correctly dated etc. It’s not necessary to admit them at all, even to “public” areas, without a signed warrant.
