Feb. 24th Potluck & Program: “Slavery in America and the Underground Railroad”

Hope you can make time for a “Potluck and Program”- Sunday, February 24, 11:30 – 12:30pm for the potluck in the coffee room and our guest speaker Don Rankin will present his program in the meeting room from 12:30-2pm.

Events & Activities will host a Potluck Lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the Sunday Service. After lunch, from 12:30 – 2pm, the Social Justice Coordinating Team will present “Slavery in America and the Underground Railroad”, with Dr. Don Rankin.  From the perspective of someone with biracial family ties, Dr. Rankin will chronicle the development of slavery in America and the efforts of those who championed its abolishment. The development of the underground railroad will be discussed. Abolitionists John P. Parker, Rev John Rankin, William Lloyd Garrison and others will be shared through a slide presentation.

A forum will be provided for folks to share their thoughts about racism today and ideas to mitigate the subtle and not so subtle forms of its continuing expression in America.

Dr. Rankin, a retired Yale trained physician and surgeon, is a member of the Madison Historical Society, the Friends of the Office of State Archaeology, the National Abolition Hall of Fame.
