Black Lives Still Matter

Our decision to display a BLM flag is not an endorsement of any statements by local chapters of BLM or its national organization, but an affirmation of our support and commitment to a just and inclusive world.

SUUS recently changed out our Pride flag for our Black Lives Matter (BLM) flag. This has brought about some thoughtful conversations about what this flag means for some of us and for UUs.

We’re aware there are concerns related to statements issued recently by some Black Lives Matter subgroups, as reported by various media outlets..

The ADL (Anti-Defamation League) notes, “It is important to note that Black Lives Matter chapters are run independently from the national Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, and many are completely unaffiliated. [To date]the Black Lives Matter national organization has not yet commented on the current Israel-Hamas war.”

Our UUA has publicly supported BLM since 2015. Members of the 2015 General Assembly passed an Action of Immediate Witness (AIW) in support of this movement and its goals. To read the full AIW, click here.
