Field Trip: Natural History of Purple Martin

Saturday, May 12, 9-10:00 am
Meet at  Hammonasset Chase Pond (enter park, turn right at rotary, go 1/4 mile on right.  The martin housing is obvious from the road.)

Enrique Alvarez is offering an opportunity for us to get close to nature and learn about the purple martins who build their nests in the houses provided for them at Hammonassett Park.   He will teach us about this beautiful migratory bird and the current efforts to help this population in North America.  We will look at at one of Connecticut’s most productive martin colonies in the early nesting season.

Bring binoculars if you have them as there are also many other birds to see.

Please contact Maryann Bracken with any questions.
